At the 79th British Academy Film Awards ceremony on February 22, Marty Supreme went home empty-handed despite earning 11 nominations.

The A24 sports drama which chronicles Marty Mauser’s world championship journey becomes one of only three films in BAFTA history to lose all 11 of its nominated categories. The others are Finding Neverland (2004) and Women in Love (1969).

Among its notable losses:

  • Best Film — lost to One Battle After Another
  • Best Director (Josh Safdie) — lost to Paul Thomas Anderson for One Battle After Another
  • Best Leading Actor (Timothée Chalamet) — lost to Robert Aramayo for I Swear
  • Best Leading Actress (Odessa A’zion) — lost to Jessie Buckley for Hamnet

Despite the awards-night disappointment, Marty Supreme remains a commercial success. The film grossed $162 million worldwide against a reported $60 million budget.

It also remains in contention this awards season, with nine nominations at the upcoming Academy Awards scheduled for March 15.
