Megan Thee Stallion has shared a first-look video preview of her portrayal of Zidler ahead of her Broadway debut in Moulin Rouge! The Musical, which begins March 24 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.
The three-time Grammy winner makes history as the first female-identifying performer to take on the role, which has traditionally been portrayed by male-identifying actors.
Originally known as Harold Zidler, the character has been renamed simply Zidler for Megan’s run. Unlike previous portrayals, she will play the cabaret owner as a female character rather than in male drag, as seen in the newly released first-look image. Her strictly limited eight-week engagement runs through May 17.
Joining her is Kelsie Watts, who steps into the role of Satine. Watts, who made her Broadway debut as Jane Seymour in SIX: The Musical and competed on Season 19 of The Voice, will perform alongside current cast members Christian Douglas, André Ward, David Harris, Ricky Rojas, and Samantha Dodemaide.
According to Deadline, producer Carmen Pavlovic described the casting as a farewell gift to Broadway audiences, noting that elements of Megan’s music catalogue will also be incorporated into the production. The Tony Award-winning musical, which won 10 Tony Awards including Best Musical and returned in 2021 following Broadway’s COVID-19 shutdown, is scheduled to conclude its Broadway run on July 26, 2026.
Although this marks Megan’s first Broadway appearance, she is no stranger to the stage and screen. She previously made her feature film debut as Gloria in the A24 comedy Dicks: The Musical and has appeared in several productions, including She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins. She has also produced her own animated series, Hotties.
