Directed by Brett Haley, the romantic comedy marks the first of Henry’s novels to reach the screen.
The story follows Poppy (Emily Bader) and Alex (Tom Blyth), two best friends who take annual trips together. After a falling out, they agree to one last vacation, where they confront the possibility that their friendship might actually be love.

The ensemble cast includes Sarah Catherine Hook, Jameela Jamil, Lucien Laviscount, Molly Shannon, Alan Ruck, Lukas Gage, Alice Lee, and Miles Heizer. Filmed in New Orleans and Barcelona, the movie promises an international backdrop for the heartfelt story.
Henry, who was closely involved in the adaptation, praised the casting of Bader and Blyth, noting their strong chemistry during auditions.
Published in 2021, People We Meet on Vacation became an instant bestseller, topping reading lists and winning the Goodreads Choice Award for Best Romance. Critics lauded its witty dialogue, emotional depth, and relatable exploration of friendship turning into love.

The film is part of a growing trend, with other Henry novels like Beach Read and Book Lovers also being developed for the screen. For Netflix, it adds to a growing slate of romantic adaptations following hits like To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and Purple Hearts.
