On June 17, during its annual TUDUM event, Netflix announced that water, earth, fire, and air will converge once again for a live-action remake of a beloved childhood animated series: “Avatar: The Last Airbender.” Subsequently, it released the photos of Aang (Gordon Cormier), Prince Zuko (Dallas Liu), Katara (Kiawentiio), and Sokka (Ian Ousley).
The streaming giant has now given fans more to look forward to with the release of first look photos of multiple Fire Nation characters: Fire Lord Ozai (Daniel Dae Kim), General Iroh (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee), Princess Azula (Elizabeth Yu), and Commander Zhao (Ken Leung). Netflix also debuted a new image of Zuko.
“Avatar: The Last Airbender” will premiere in 2024, though it currently has no official release date. The first season is scheduled to have an 8-episode run. Like the animated series, the live-action will chronicle the adventures of Aang as he trains to fulfill his destiny of reuniting the four nations−the Water Tribe, Earth Kingdom, Fire Nation, and the Air Nomads). With the help of his friends, he vows to undo the damage caused by the ruthless Fire Nation.
Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, the creators of “Avatar”, have promised fans that apart from the live-action series, a standalone animated film is in the works and will premiere in late 2025.
