Netflix is set to reel in viewers with its upcoming thriller series “The Waterfront,” featuring “Mindhunter” star Holt McCallany as the patriarch of a Carolina fishing dynasty.
The streaming giant announced during the week that McCallany will play the character of Harlan Buckley, co-founder of a family-run fishing empire. The series delves into the business’s murky past and the struggles to keep it afloat amid family turmoil.
“The Waterfront” traces the Buckley family’s rise from the 1980s, exploring the ethical compromises made along the way. After health issues force Harlan to step back, mismanagement by his son Cane compels the patriarch to reclaim control of the business.
Kevin Williamson, known for his work on horror franchises “Scream” and “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” will write and executive produce the series. Williamson’s credits also include creating popular teen dramas “Dawson’s Creek” and “The Vampire Diaries.”
Netflix has yet to announce additional cast members or a premiere date for “The Waterfront.”
The series promises to blend family drama with the high-stakes world of commercial fishing, potentially offering viewers a fresh take on the thriller genre.
