The Netflix animated hit gets a sing-along run in cinemas and is projected to take the number one spot at the US box office.
Netflix’s “KPop Demon Hunters” May Set First-Ever Box Office Record
As Netflix’s most-watched animated film to date, the musical KPop Demon Hunters is projected to set a box office record for the streamer following its recent two-day cinema run.
The sing-along screenings in the UK and US, scheduled for August 23 and 24, are reportedly selling out and could help the film surpass Red Notice’s box office record.
According to reports, KPop Demon Hunters, directed by Maggie Kang, faces little competition, with no major new blockbusters releasing this week. Industry analysts suggest that this gives the film a strong chance to take the number one spot at the US box office.
While Zach Cregger’s horror film Weapons is in its third week and predicted to earn roughly $13.5 million, projections indicate that KPop Demon Hunters could exceed $15 million in earnings.
If these numbers hold, the film would secure Netflix’s first-ever number-one box office debut.
Additionally, with the movie’s limited cinema run, KPop Demon Hunters is now reportedly eligible to compete for the Best Animated Feature category at the 2026 Oscars.
