The Nigerian Official Selection Committee (NOSC) has confirmed that Nigeria will not be submitting any film for the International Feature Film (IFF) category at the 2026 Academy Awards.

Nigeria, which previously entered films such as C.J. Obasi’s Mami Wata and Prince Aboki’s Mai Martaba, will not compete this year.

NOSC Chairperson Stephanie Linus, in a press statement, shared the reason, explaining that the committee received six films for consideration despite the call for entries.

She says the ‘No Submission’ decision was reached on September 26 after a majority vote.

While Nigerian films have improved in meeting IFF standards, they still fall short in creative and technical execution.”

Expressing her regret, she also disclosed NOSC’s plans to implement proactive measures as encouragement for filmmakers to create Oscar-worthy films.

The 98th Oscars Award is scheduled to take place on March 15, 2026, in Los Angeles.
