Nile Cinemas has expanded its cinema network with the integration of VIVA Cinemas locations in Ikeja, Ibadan, Ilorin, and Enugu, strengthening its presence across key Nigerian cities.
The expansion brings Nile Cinemas’ total number of locations to eight nationwide, including its luxury cinema at Delborough Hotel. The move marks the company’s latest effort to scale its operations through the takeover and management of existing cinema spaces.
Over the past year, Nile Cinemas has steadily grown its footprint by reviving cinema venues and standardising service delivery across its locations. Its current portfolio includes Nile at THC Cinemax, Iju Road; Nile at Royal Roots Cinema, Ikota; Nile at Vintano Hotels; and the Delborough Hotel luxury cinema in Victoria Island.

With the addition of the former VIVA Cinemas sites, Nile Cinemas now operates across three of Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones: the South West, South East, and North Central. According to the company, each location will maintain its local character while meeting consistent operational and customer service standards.
As part of the transition, Nile Cinemas plans phased upgrades across all newly integrated locations. These upgrades will include improved seating, enhanced sound and picture quality, streamlined ticketing processes, and refinements to the overall ambience.
Moses Babatope, group chief executive officer of Nile Media & Entertainment Group, said the expansion aligns with the company’s goal of making upgraded cinema experiences more accessible to audiences nationwide. He added that audience response to Nile’s luxury cinema offering indicates growing interest in premium and intimate viewing spaces.

Group chief operating officer Biola Sokenu said the transition would prioritise continuity for existing customers. She noted that while upgrades are planned, Nile Cinemas is committed to preserving the familiarity that loyal VIVA Cinemas patrons value.
From the outgoing operator’s perspective, Ayo Amusan, managing director of Persianas Group, described the partnership as an opportunity to strengthen cinema culture in Nigeria. She said the collaboration reflects a shared focus on quality, innovation, and audience satisfaction.
Looking ahead, Nile Cinemas plans to expand into the South South, North West, and North East regions. With eight active cinema locations already in operation, the company says it will continue to invest in cinema infrastructure, community engagement, and the visibility of Nigerian films.
