Veteran Nollywood actress and producer Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has once again advocated for structural reforms in Nollywood. With a 30-year career in film and television, the actress recently reiterated her concerns on June 7, 2025 via her Instagram Story, comparing her experiences in Hollywood and Nollywood.
To support her argument, she shared an envelope received from the Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), an American union representing film and media professionals.
“Just four years in Hollywood. Two test projects, monthly residuals. Thirty years in Nollywood, with over 310 projects, no residuals. Nollywood needs structure,” she wrote.

Omotola not only highlighted differences in royalty systems between the two industries, but also expressed her displeasure over the absence of residual payments in Nollywood.
Since her post, mixed reactions have followed her advocacy, with actress Beverly Osu supporting the call, saying, “Residuals are a right, not a luxury.”
This isn’t the first time the award-winning actress is calling out the industry that made her a household name. Back in May, she made a similar appeal, detailing the financial hurdles of producing and distributing a film within the Nigerian film industry.
