Paul Thomas Anderson’s action thriller One Battle After Another might just be the film of the year after securing first place on Rolling Stone’s 20 Best Movies of 2025. The film, starring Leonardo DiCaprio as a former revolutionary in search of his missing daughter, has received widespread praise for its action-packed plot, thrilling pace and compelling performances.

One Battle After Another also dominated the National Board of Review’s 2025 Awards, where it was named the Best Film of 2025 and secured four additional honours, adding to its growing list of recognitions.

On Rolling Stone’s newly released ranking, Hamnet, Chloé Zhao’s historical drama inspired by Shakespeare’s Hamlet, placed second. Steven Soderbergh’s Black Bag, Clint Bentley’s Train Dreams and Richard Linklater’s Nouvelle Vague rounded out the top five.

Other notable films on the list include Universal Language, Eddington, Peter Hujar’s Day, Sentimental Value, Marty Supreme, Sorry, Baby, No Other Choice and It Was Just an Accident. Titles such as Weapons, Frankenstein and Caught by the Tides also made the list.

However, the exclusion of Ryan Coogler’s record-breaking hit Sinners has stirred debate across social media, with many questioning its absence from such a prominent year-end ranking.
