James Omokwe’s Benin epic Osamede is set to expand its impact beyond Nigeria, with screenings scheduled in the United Kingdom and the United States. According to the filmmaker, the film will open in select cinemas beginning November 28, 2025.
Nigerians in the diaspora and Nollywood audiences in the UK can watch the film in Greenwich, Streatham, Milton Keynes, Manchester Great Northern, and Birmingham. In the US, it will be available in Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, Maryland, and Indianapolis.
Set in the 1800s during British colonial rule, Osamede follows an orphaned girl who learns she can wield the power of the Aruosa stone. Ivie Okujaye leads the cast as Osamede, starring alongside William Benson, Lexan Aisosa Peters, Tosin Adeyemi, Lancelot Imasuen, and Alex Bud.
Since its release on October 17, 2025, Osamede has earned significant praise. The Nollywood Reporter describes it as “a restitution of Benin heritage; a bite back on colonialism and tribal infighting.” The film also recently triumphed at the Silicon Valley African Film Festival with a win for Best Narrative Feature.
