Play Network Studios, a subsidiary of the leading media conglomerate Play Network Africa, has appointed Arafat Bello-Osagie as its new Chief Executive Officer. Bello-Osagie, a UK-trained Nigerian lawyer with expertise in corporate legal strategy and brand differentiation, will be responsible for managing both the executive and creative aspects of the company.
In her new role, Bello-Osagie will draw on her track record of diligent project execution and valuable advisory experience in mergers and acquisitions. Her leadership is expected to seamlessly align with Play Network Studios’ innovative project execution style, as recognized by the company’s Board of Directors.
Bello-Osagie’s contributions as Head of Strategy and Operations at Play Network have already made a significant impact. From spearheading story development and production to championing gender inclusion, her influence has extended across borders with notable projects like ‘Glamour Girls’ and ‘Skeleton Coast’.
“Arafat’s appointment signals a strategic move towards furthering Play Network Studios’ creative vision while maintaining a focus on impactful storytelling and inclusive representation,” said a spokesperson for the company.
Since its inception in 2007, Play Network Studios has emerged as a prominent player in the entertainment, events, and hospitality sectors in Nigeria. The company’s transition into film production has been marked by the release of “Living in Bondage: Breaking Free,” a modern reinterpretation of the iconic 1992 drama thriller.
Building on this success, Play Network Studios has embarked on remaking several classic Nollywood titles, including “Aki and Pawpaw,” “Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story,” and “Nneka the Pretty Serpent.” These endeavors have solidified the company’s position as a leading force in Nigeria’s burgeoning film industry, with plans for further expansion and innovation in the pipeline.
