Prime Video is doubling down on sports storytelling with a slate of four new documentary projects greenlighted at its inaugural Amazon Upfront presentation on Tuesday, May 14, 2024.

The streaming service also renewed the Emmy-nominated docuseries “Coach Prime” for a third season.

The newly announced docuseries span the worlds of NASCAR, video games, championship game thrillers, and a bizarre true crime tale:

  • “Untitled Earnhardt Documentary” (four episodes) will chronicle the iconic NASCAR dynasty led by the late Dale Earnhardt Sr.
  • “Untitled EA Madden Documentary” explores the unlikely origins and pop culture impact of the hugely popular Madden NFL video game franchise.
  • “Game 7” is an anthology dramatizing legendary winner-take-all championship moments like the Cubs’ 2016 World Series win.
  • “ChiefsAholic: A Wolf in Chiefs Clothing” investigates the case of the notorious Kansas City Chiefs superfan accused of serial bank robbery.

Meanwhile, the third season renewal of “Coach Prime” will follow Deion Sanders and his rebuilding efforts with the University of Colorado Boulder football program.

“These projects represent Prime Video’s commitment to capturing the transcendent narratives and figures that make sports so integral to our lives,” said Marie Donoghue, VP of Global Sports Video at Amazon.

The new sports docs come from an array of production companies including Imagine Documentaries, NASCAR Studios, A+E Factual Studios, Words Pictures, Jersey Films, and DreamCrew Entertainment, among others.

Premiere dates have not been set, but the diverse slate aims to cater to sports fans across generations and expand the streamer’s premium nonfiction programming.

In addition to “Coach Prime,” Prime Video’s current sports offerings include the Tennessee Tussler docuseries, documentaries like Quarterback, and live games across various leagues.
