Nine-year-old Purity Njimezi makes her acting debut in ZOE, a short film written and directed by Prosper Light under OGWA Studios. The film tells the story of a young girl living with sickle cell anemia.
In her first on-screen role, Njimezi plays Zoe, a character that requires emotional range and vulnerability. The film explores themes of resilience, faith, and family as it follows Zoe’s experience living with the chronic illness.
ZOE is directed by Prosper Light, known for his work with young talent and stories centered on social issues. The film marks another project in his focus on youth-centered narratives that address health and human experiences.
“ZOE marks the beginning of many young stories that will find expression through the OGWA Studios platform,” Light said, discussing the studio’s approach to developing young storytellers and actors.

The film premieres on December 12, 2025.
Sickle cell anemia is a genetic blood disorder that affects millions worldwide, with a significant prevalence in African communities. The condition causes red blood cells to become misshapen, leading to pain, fatigue, and other serious health complications.
Through ZOE, Light continues his work highlighting stories that address health awareness and the experiences of young people facing medical challenges.
