Road to TIFF 2024: James Amuta’s “When the Monsters Come Out” Set to Screen at the Prestigious Festival

Award-winning Nigerian filmmaker and writer James Amuta is taking his creative genius to Toronto. His transboundary, neo-noir film “When the Monsters Come Out” will have a Market Screening at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) Lightbox on Sept. 10 by 3:30 pm (EDT).

According to TIFF, the short film is described as follows: “A night at sea leaves pregnant Tangelo traumatized after a pirate attack. She retreats to a remote island to protect her only child—but 18 years later, she is forced to face the monsters that tore her world apart.”

“When the Monsters Come Out” is directed and produced by Amuta, along with Leslie-Ann Wills Caton, Bamgbola Aliu Adekunle, and Nnamdi Oliver Ubah.

The film is a collaborative effort between Nigeria and Trinidad and Tobago as part of a wider initiative to foster creative collaborations between the two countries.
