“Out in the Darkness,” the debut feature film by Afro-Canadian filmmaker Sarah Kwaji, has officially been selected for the 2025 Oakville Film Festival in Canada. The psychological drama, which delves into the harrowing realities of postpartum depression, will be featured during the eight-day event running from June 18 to 25, 2025, alongside more than 105 curated films, documentaries, and shorts from across Canada.

This powerful story serves as both a call for greater awareness and compassion, and an invitation to engage in honest, necessary conversations about postpartum darkness—an often unspoken reality.

Produced by SSK Productions, the film stars an ensemble cast including Kehinde Bankole, Deyemi Okanlawon, Darasimi Nnadi, Bimbo Akintola, Jide Kosoko, Tina Mba, and Ronke Oshodi Oke.

“Out in the Darkness” will screen alongside major international titles such as “How to Train Your Dragon,” “Jane Austen Wrecked My Life,”and “40 Acres”.

Now in its twelfth year, the Oakville Film Festival will also host a nationwide online screening experience from June 18 to 30, 2025, allowing broader Canadian audiences to view the film.

“Out in the Darkness” was also selected for the Nollywood Film Week 2025 (NOW) and is expected to premiere in Nigerian cinemas on July 4, 2025, distributed by Genesis Pictures Nigeria.
