AMVCA 2025: “Seven Doors,” “Lisabi: The Uprising,” and “Suspicion” Lead the Pack

The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards unveil a competitive lineup, with “Seven Doors”, “Lisabi: The Uprising”, and “Suspicion” earning multiple nods across key categories.

The nominations for the 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) have been announced, recognizing outstanding achievements in African film and television over the past year.

 

“Seven Doors,” “Lisabi: The Uprising,” and “Suspicion” emerged as frontrunners, securing nominations across multiple major categories and solidifying their impact on the industry.

 

The AMVCA honors excellence in various aspects of filmmaking, including directing, acting, and technical contributions. This year’s selection showcases a diverse mix of digital content, indigenous storytelling, and high-profile productions.

 

“Seven Doors”, directed by Femi Adebayo, Adebayo Tijani, and Tope Adebayo, leads with multiple nominations, including Best Lead Actress for Chioma Chukwuka and Best Supporting Actor for Aliu Gafar. The film, praised for its gripping narrative, is also in contention for Best Indigenous Language Film (West Africa), where it competes with “Lisabi: The Uprising”, “Anikulapo: The Rise of the Spectre”, “Kaka”, and “Mai Martaba”.

“Lisabi: The Uprising”, produced by Anthill Studios, follows closely behind with nominations in categories such as Best Lead Actor (Adedimeji Lateef), Best Supporting Actor (Adedayo Adebowale), and Best Film Editing. The historical epic has continued to earn acclaim for its storytelling and technical execution.

 

“Suspicion” also stands out with key nominations, including Best Lead Actor for Stan Nze and Best Supporting Actor and Actress nods for Uzor Arukwe and Tina Mba, respectively. The film’s crime-driven narrative has made a significant impact on audiences and critics alike.

 

Beyond feature films, the AMVCA 2025 highlights emerging voices in African cinema. The Best Digital Content Creator category features influencers and storytellers such as Iyo Prosper Adokiye, Taaooma, and Jide Pounds Ibitoye. Meanwhile, the MultiChoice Talent Factory category recognizes rising filmmakers with nominations for “Gone”, “Everything Light Touches”, “The Immersive Alarm”, “Deadbeat”, “Nwananga”, and “Rivals in Time”.

 

In keeping with its commitment to indigenous African storytelling, the AMVCA features strong representation in regional categories. Films such as “Seven Doors”, “Lisabi: The Uprising”, and “Anikulapo: The Rise of the Spectre” will compete for Best Indigenous Language Film (West Africa), while “The Caller”, “Empty Grave”, “Makosa ni Yangu”, “Sabotage”, and “Wa Milele (Forever?)” are nominated in the East Africa category. Southern African nominees include “Walvis Tale”, “The Vow”, “Mwizukanji”, “Man of Gold”, and “Lukas”.

 

The acting categories are packed with some of the biggest names in African cinema. Best Supporting Actress nominees include Meg Otanwa (“Inside Life”), Tina Mba (“Suspicion”), and Ireti Doyle (“All’s Fair in Love”), while the Best Supporting Actor category features Gabriel Afolayan (“Inside Life”), Adedayo Adebowale (“Lisabi”), and RMD (“Christmas in Lagos”).

 

For Best Lead Actress, Chioma Chukwuka (“Seven Doors”), Gbubemi Ejeye (“Farmer’s Bride”), and Uzoamaka Onuoha (“Agemo”) are among those in the running. In the Best Lead Actor category, nominees include Gideon Okeke (“Tokunbo”), Stan Nze (“Suspicion”), and Femi Adebayo (“Seven Doors”).

 

Suspicion

Technical categories also feature strong contenders, with Best Editing nominees including “Inkabi”, “Christmas in Lagos”, and “Skeleton Coast”. The Best Cinematography and Best Sound Design categories highlight the visual and auditory artistry behind many of the nominated films.

 

With an exciting slate of nominees, the AMVCA 2025 promises to be a highly competitive and celebratory event, recognizing the best in African storytelling and cinematic innovation.
