Nigerian artist Shallipopi released the visuals for his track “Oscroh (Pepperline),” on Feb. 4, 2024, and it was shot in Dubai.
The Bini-born singer’s latest work is a 2-minute 45-second extravaganza set against the opulent backdrop of Dubai’s streets and waters. In this visualizer, Shallipopi is seen cruising through the city in exotic cars and ski boats bringing the song’s lavish lifestyle theme to life with the catchy verse, “the lifestyle cost, na you nor know.”
The release of the track’s audio back in October was met with mixed reviews as some critics concluded the singer had run out of ideas by singing what was a nursery rhyme.
However, this controversy didn’t deter the track’s success, as it soared to the top of the Nigerian Apple Music charts, a triumph Shallipopi openly celebrated.
It’s no slouch on other platforms either. As of the time of this writing, the song has garnered over 7 million streams on the global streaming platform Spotify
“Oscroh’s October release was accompanied by another track, “Things On Things” and the unprecedented launch of his record label, Plutomania Records–a move intended to spread his wings in the Nigerian music industry.
This newest offering from Shallipopi blurs the lines between traditional music videos and visualizers, with only production quality being the sole tiebreaker.
As for Shallipopi, up is the only way from here. A video posted on Wednesday showed him in the studio with fellow Rema, hinting at the brewing of some exciting new music.
