MultiChoice, a CANAL+ company, has announced that Showmax Originals and selected titles will move to DStv Stream ahead of the streaming platform’s scheduled closure on April 30, 2026.

According to the company, the titles will be housed in a dedicated Showmax section within the DStv Stream app starting April 1, 2026, ensuring continued access to popular originals and fan-favourite content.

The move is part of a broader transition that will see DStv Stream combine live television, sports, and on-demand entertainment within a single platform. Showmax content will be available to subscribers on DStv Compact, Compact Plus, and Premium packages, as well as streaming-only customers via the DStv Stream app.

Existing Showmax subscribers will be migrated to DStv Stream on Compact and will continue to access content until May 31, 2026, at no additional cost.

Speaking on the development, MultiChoice Nigeria Chief Executive Officer Kemi Omotosho said the transition reflects the company’s long-term streaming strategy and continued investment in African storytelling.

She noted that Showmax played a role in supporting locally produced content across the continent, citing titles such as Wura, Flawsome, Cheta M, and The Real Housewives of Lagos as part of its catalogue of originals developed in collaboration with local producers.

MultiChoice added that the Showmax section on DStv Stream will also feature series from across Africa, including The Wife and Single Kiasi, alongside international content and live programming.

The company stated that DStv Stream will continue to offer features such as live TV viewing, on-demand content, pause and rewind on live channels, offline downloads, and personalized recommendations.

Sports content will also remain a key part of the platform through SuperSport, with access to competitions including the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, LaLiga, and Serie A, available on supported devices including smart TVs.

MultiChoice said more titles will be added to the Showmax section in the coming weeks as part of the transition process.
