Showmax Unveils August Lineup With Historical Drama “Queen Modjadji” Leading the Slate
Showmax has announced the premiere date for “Queen Modjadji”, a historical drama centered on the iconic Balobedu rainmaker, as part of its newly unveiled August content lineup.
The series, inspired by the real-life figure whose descendants continue to hold ceremonial power in Southern Africa, will debut on Monday, August 4, 2025.
It is produced by South Africa’s Rhythm World Productions, the studio behind titles such as “Sibongile & The Dlaminis” and “My Brother’s Keeper”.
Set during a period marked by tribal conflict and spiritual transformation, “Queen Modjadji” traces the journey of a young woman chosen by ancestral forces to lead her people. Makoma Mohale stars as the adult Queen Maselekwane Modjadji, while Ngele Ramulondi portrays her younger self. Newcomer Masutang Hope Rasekele appears as Dzungundini, the queen’s mother.
The show blends elements of African mythology with matriarchal rule and cultural traditions, offering a visually rich portrait of leadership and heritage. With its emphasis on indigenous identity and spiritual power.
The series will be available to stream exclusively on Showmax.
Also arriving on the platform in August are “Dexter: Original Sin”, “Sibongile & The Dlaminis” Season 2, “Law & Order” Season 24, and “Peacemaker” Season 2 starring John Cena.
