Showmax Unveils Cast for “Under the Influence”

Showmax has revealed the cast of its much-anticipated Nigerian original series, “Under the Influence,” set to premiere on January 24, 2025.

Directed by Wande Thomas, the series explores the complexities of social media fame and its impact on identity, relationships, and family dynamics.

Leading the cast is Iremide Adeoye, who takes on the role of Dami, a 21-year-old university graduate who finds himself thrust into the chaotic world of online fame after a viral rant. Adeoye, known for his work in Wura and The Origin: Madam Koi-Koi, brings depth and authenticity to the character, capturing Dami’s internal struggles and ambitions in a world obsessed with digital recognition.

Alongside him is Bobby Ekpe as Ayo, Dami’s older brother, who finds himself caught between the traditional career path he’s pursued and the unconventional choices Dami makes. Ekpe’s performances in Unscripted and Greener Pastures reflect the emotional complexity of Ayo, who carries the weight of family responsibility while grappling with unfulfilled personal dreams.

Funmbi Oguntoye portrays Amaka, a 20-year-old social media influencer who has risen to fame but remains disillusioned with the world she inhabits. Oguntoye, known for her roles in House of Money and Everything Lasts, infuses Amaka with a blend of confidence and vulnerability, showcasing the challenges of navigating an image-driven world.

Isioma Okey-Nwosu plays Oye, Dami’s childhood friend and manager. A hustler with no formal experience, Oye is loyal to Dami, even as his well-meaning efforts often lead to chaos. Isioma’s portrayal of Oye brings both humor and authenticity, highlighting the complexities of friendship and ambition.

Dante Okere steps into the role of Ebuka, a manipulative and smooth-talking antagonist who works behind the scenes to undermine Dami. Okere, known for his roles in Smokescreen and Sin, brings charisma and menace to the character, offering a sharp contrast to Dami’s more naive approach to fame.

Rounding out the cast is Eva Ibiam as Ivie, She plays Ivie, a 30-year-old artist and friend to Ayo, who provides a grounding presence in his life. Ivie helps Ayo understand Dami’s desires and frustrations while also offering a peaceful balance in Ayo’s otherwise tumultuous journey.
