After 260 episodes and three seasons, Showmax’s first Nigerian original telenovela, “Wura,” has come to a close. The final episode premiered exclusively on the streaming platform on Tuesday, April 15, drawing the curtain on one of the most talked-about series in recent years.

Produced by Rogers Ofime, “Wura” made history as Showmax Nigeria’s longest-running original series. Adapted from South Africa’s “The River,” the show was set in the Iperindo community of Osun State and centered on Wura-Amoo Adeleke, a character portrayed by Scarlet Gomez. By day, she appeared to be a loving wife and mother, but behind the scenes, she ran Frontline Gold Mine with a ruthless hand. Her complex dual life formed the core of the show’s drama.

The finale delivered what fans had come to expect — major twists, emotional confrontations, and long-awaited consequences for the lead character’s actions. As Wura’s secrets unraveled, the fates of several key characters were sealed.

“We are thrilled by the overwhelming response from fans who have been part of this journey since episode one,” said Dr. Busola Tejumola, Executive Head of Content and West Africa Channels at MultiChoice.

“Wura” starred Scarlet Gomez, Yomi Fash Lanso, Carol King, Ego Iheanacho, and Martha Ehinome. It earned several nominations at the 2024 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, including Best Writing in a TV Series and Best Scripted Series.
