The Mostra de Cinemas Africanos spotlight includes six Nigerian titles in collaboration with Nigeria’s S16 Film Festival.
For its 2025 edition, the Mostra de Cinemas Africanos (Brazil African Film Festival) has unveiled a lineup of seven short films set to screen across Brazil in September.
Six of these titles are by Nigerian filmmakers, reflecting the country’s growing presence on the global film circuit.
The Nigerian selections include:
- “God’s Wife” (2024) by Dika Ofoma
- “Journey Mercies” (2023) by Tomisin Adepeju
- “Leaving Ikorodu in 1991” (2024) by Rashida Seriki
- “Fluid Lagos” (2024) by The Fluid Lagos Collective
- “Everything Lasts and Nothing Ends” (2024) by Nosazemen Agbontaen and Rete Poki
- “Enyo” (2024) by Nneoha Ann Aligwe
These films will screen as part of the festival’s Naija Focus program, a section dedicated to highlighting contemporary Nigerian cinema. The selection was made in partnership with Nigeria’s S16 Film Festival.
Several of the selected shorts have previously featured at prestigious festivals including Locarno, Toronto, Tribeca, and Film Africa London, further emphasizing the international recognition Nigerian filmmakers are receiving.
The only non-Nigerian entry in the lineup is “Echoes of the Heart” (2024) by Arnaud Rwasangabo from South Africa.
The Mostra de Cinemas Africanos continues to serve as a platform for African filmmakers to reach broader audiences in Latin America, showcasing a diversity of voices and cinematic perspectives.
