Nigerian filmmaker C. J. Obasi is set to direct A Blue Butterfly, a new psychological drama that will star Steve Toussaint and Sanaa Lathan, with production scheduled to begin in March.
Toussaint, known for House of the Dragon, and Lathan, whose credits include Love & Basketball, will lead the project for Boudica Entertainment. Obasi shared the announcement on X (formerly Twitter), alongside early details about the film.
Written by Toussaint, A Blue Butterfly follows Sentwali, a reserved man haunted by his past who spends his days driving through the city in a limousine. During one of his rides, he meets Joseph, a frail Holocaust survivor who understands the weight of forced violence. Sentwali later encounters Emily, a charismatic actress whose openness contrasts with his guarded nature, offering him a path toward redemption and forgiveness.
The film will be produced by Rebecca Long and Stella Nwimo under Boudica Entertainment. Nwimo recently produced Olive Nwosu’s Sundance award-winning project Lady.
Production is expected to take place across London and Kigali as the film explores themes of survivor’s guilt and the difficulty of self-forgiveness.
