The Annual Film Mischief Festival 2025 (TAFM) is making a bold return with a renewed commitment to independent storytelling by providing a space for filmmakers to breathe, reflect, and reclaim their creative voices.

Organized by the Film Rats Club, the festival is set to take place in October 2025, inviting students, first-time filmmakers, and independent creatives. Submissions are open until July 2025 for African filmmakers and storytellers with a focus on African-centered narratives.

This year, screenings and events will take place in Lagos, Abuja, Accra, and Dar es Salaam. Championed by the theme “Reclaiming Self,” the festival aims to prioritize films that explore personal and cultural identity, self-discovery, resilience, healing, and empowerment, with a special focus on stories from underrepresented, marginalized, and misunderstood communities.

Honoring outstanding storytelling, TAFM celebrates the finest films with awards and cash prizes. Past editions have featured screenings of acclaimed works such as “T’egbon T’aburo” by Orire Nwani, “Ekun Iyawo: A Tale of a Runaway Bride” by Moses Ipadeola, and With Difficulty Comes Ease” by Korede Azeez.

With its growing influence in the African film space, TAFM continues to redefine how indie films are celebrated — creating a movement that amplifies voices and ensures every story has the opportunity to be seen, felt, and recognized.
