Grammy-award-winning singer and songwriter, Tems, known for her unique voice and raspy vocals, will be releasing her debut studio album in May. The surprise announcement comes after her set at Coachella where she performed a string of her essential hits, bringing out Wizkid and Justin Bieber for an electrifying performance of “Essence” remix.
In a nostalgic one-minute video posted on her social media handles, Tems reminisces on her childhood, presumably back in Nigeria, as she announces the album.
“It’s all over the news, all over the news, I notice/ Under the sun, struggling to find my focus/ When I was young, younger than my mind as always/ Runnin’ away,” she sings before launching into the chorus with the album title. “BORN IN THE WILD. The Album. May 2024,” she captioned the 56-second clip on Instagram and X.
Tems released two singles prior to the release of the album, “Me & U” and “Not an Angel” in 2023. The former performed well on the Billboard U.S Afrobeats Songs chart, peaking at No. 3. The song has spent 27 weeks on the charts. The latter also peaked at No.3 and has spent 18 weeks on the charts.
