The crime thriller records one of October’s strongest debut weeks at the Nigerian box office.
Nollywood crime thriller The Herd, has ended its debut week at the Nigerian box office with ₦47 million.
Data compiled by the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN) reveals that the Daniel Etim Effiong’s directorial debut posted a ₦29.4 million opening weekend, going on to gross ₦2.9 million, ₦3.8 million, ₦4.2 million, and ₦5.4 million respectively from Monday through Thursday for ₦45.8 million.
When included with the ₦1.3 million first Thursday previews, The Herd’s first week tally amounts to ₦47.1 million.
This makes it the second-highest grossing film of the October 17 to 23 week, almost doubling Tron: Ares’ ₦25 million and just behind the ₦59.8 million of Gingerrr.
It’s a tally also miles ahead of fellow new releases: Osamede (₦11.7 million), Black Phone 2 (₦10.9 million) and The Exco (₦6.2 million).
The Herd follows Gosi, a man struggling to stay composed as his wife battles a recurring cancer scare. Hoping for a brief escape, he joins his close friends to celebrate their wedding. But what begins as a night of laughter and reunion soon spirals into horror when the group is ambushed and kidnapped by armed men disguised as cattle herdsmen.
Among the cast are actor-director Etim Effiong, Kunle Remi, Tina Mba, Mercy Aigbe and Genonevah Umeh.
