Three Nigerian films—”The Man Died, The Weekend”, and “Mai Martaba”—have been selected to screen at the 2025 Nollywood in Hollywood showcase.
The event is set to take place on February 28 and March 1 at two prestigious venues: The Egyptian Theater and Norris Theater, located on the campus of the University of Southern California.
The showcase, which highlights Nigerian storytelling and culture, was founded in 2018 by Nigerian-American filmmaker Ose Oyamendan as a cultural diplomacy initiative. Through his production company, O2A Media Corp, Oyamendan partnered with the American Cinematheque and the University of Southern California to give Hollywood a closer look at Nigerian cinema.
Unoma Ononye, the program manager, expressed excitement about this year’s edition. “Everything is set to make this the best showcase in our short history. You come to Nollywood in Hollywood, and you can stay for the Oscars the next day! You can’t beat that,” Ononye said.
Since its inception, Nollywood in Hollywood has provided a platform for Nigerian filmmakers to connect with key players in Hollywood, including agencies, studios, and casting directors. Past editions have featured works from filmmakers such as Kunle Afolayan, Kemi Adetiba, Jade Osiberu, Genevieve Nnaji, Steve Gukas, and C.J. Obasi.
The 2025 showcase aims to further expand Nollywood’s global reach, reinforcing the industry’s growing presence in international cinema.
