“Throne Room” ,a satirical stage play critiquing Nigeria’s complex relationship with religion, is set to run in Lagos from April 5 to 27, 2025.
Created by Belinda Yanga and co-written by Jennifer Nkem Eneanya, Ijeoma Grace Agu, and Goodness Emmanuel, the play marks Emmanuel’s debut as a producer under TOF, her film and theatre production company.
The production explores how faith is often used to justify absurd actions, portraying celestial beings grappling with human logic particularly that of Nigerians. Starring Chimezie Imo, Tomi Ojo, Uche Chika Elumelu, Belinda Yanga, and Promise Agbor,
“Throne Room” is set in a divine courtroom where a stressed, anxiety-ridden God, an exhausted angel, and a mischievous devil sift through endless Nigerian prayers. Here, faith serves as a loophole for morality, miracles are expected on demand, and accountability is always someone else’s problem.
The play will be staged on April 5, 6, 12, 13, 26, and 27 at Terra Kulture Lawn and on April 19, 20, 26, and 27 at Fired and Iced, Lagos.
With sharp-witted dialogue and humorous performances, “Throne Room” promises an entertaining yet thought-provoking theatrical experience.
