Veteran actor Tom Hanks has officially begun voice recording for “Toy Story 5,” where he will reprise his iconic role as Woody.

The actor shared the update via Instagram on April 21, marking the start of production on the fifth entry in the decades-spanning animated series.

“First day of work on a certain Story Number 5! Need a hint? Disney. Studio B,” Hanks wrote, alongside a photo of himself holding up five fingers behind a recording booth.

“Toy Story 5” comes six years after the release of “Toy Story 4” in 2019. Hanks will be joined once again by longtime co-star Tim Allen, who returns as Buzz Lightyear.

The new film is directed by Andrew Stanton, known for his work on other Pixar titles including “WALL-E,” “Finding Nemo,” and “Finding Dory.” Although Stanton has writing credits on previous “Toy Story” films, this will mark his directorial debut within the franchise.

New cast members for this instalment include Anna Faris and Ernie Hudson. The film is expected to be released in cinemas on June 19, 2026.
