English actor Tom Holland has been confirmed to star in and produce the film adaptation of John Grisham’s legal thriller, “The Partner”.
The project, backed by Universal Pictures, will have its screenplay written by Academy Award-winning screenwriter Graham Moore.
Holland will play Patrick Lanigan, a junior partner at a law firm who fakes his death and escapes with $90 million stolen from the firm. The film will follow Lanigan’s journey as he’s relentlessly pursued by his former colleagues, federal agents, and private investigators, ultimately leading to his capture in South America, where he has built a new life.
This announcement comes after years of speculation about an adaptation, with filmmaker John Lee Hancock previously expressing interest in the project as a follow-up to “The Blind Side”. However, the film remained in development limbo until Holland took on the role, promising a fresh perspective on Grisham’s gripping story.
Holland’s involvement also extends to production under his new banner, Billy17, a venture he co-founded with his brother Harry Holland and collaborator Will South. This marks another ambitious step in Holland’s career, as he balances his role in “The Partner” with a packed schedule, including the fourth “Spider-Man” film, “Avengers: Doomsday” (2026), “Avengers: Secret Wars” (2027), and Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey“.
Grisham, a celebrated novelist and former lawyer, is renowned for his fast-paced legal dramas, many of which explore justice, corruption, and moral dilemmas. His works, including “The Firm” and “The Pelican Brief”, have been adapted into successful films, making “The Partner” the latest addition to the list.
Currently in its early development stages, the release date for “The Partner” is yet to be announced.
