The contemporary dance film on the resilience of Nigerian creatives will screen at the Oslo Films From the South Festival.
After successful outings in Brazil and Switzerland, Ema Edosio Deelen’s When Nigeria Happens is set to screen at the Oslo Films From the South Festival in Norway.
The writer-director announced the news on X (formerly Twitter), expressing her excitement over the continued international recognition of the film, which has also been selected for the Art Newspaper Russia Film Festival.
According to Edosio, When Nigeria Happens continues to attract global attention because of its authentic storytelling and universal themes of resilience and hope.

Co-written by Adebayo Oduwole, the film follows a group of misfit dancers struggling to preserve their love, identity, and future while navigating life’s harsh realities in Nigeria. Blending contemporary dance and narrative drama, the film explores how Nigerian youth confront systemic challenges through creativity and self-expression.
With its latest selection, When Nigeria Happens joins the official lineup of the Oslo Films From the South Festival, which celebrates experimental, documentary, and narrative films from Africa, Asia, and Latin America. The 2025 edition will run from November 6 to 16.
The selection marks another milestone in Edosio’s growing festival presence, reinforcing her reputation as one of Nollywood’s most versatile filmmakers, known for spotlighting ordinary Nigerians through innovative storytelling.
