“Amazing Grace: YorubaWorlds” Wins Best Feature Documentary at PAFF

The Wole Soyinka-led film earned top honours at the Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles.

Amazing Grace: YorubaWorlds, a documentary centred on Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka, has won Best Feature Documentary at the 34th Annual Pan African Film Festival (PAFF) in Los Angeles, California.

 

Directed by Haitian-American filmmaker Raynald Leconte and produced by Tunde Kelani and Rotimi Alakija, the film explores Yoruba culture, spirituality and artistic heritage through the lens of Soyinka’s life and legacy.

The documentary situates Yoruba civilisation within broader global conversations around music, identity and activism. Though non-fiction, it joins a growing body of screen works examining Soyinka’s influence, including The Man Died and Wole Soyinka: Eni Ogun.

 

Beyond Soyinka, the film features appearances from Brazilian music icon Gilberto Gil, Carlinhos Brown, the Ooni of Ife Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, and Brazil’s Minister of Culture Margareth Menezes. Other contributors include Seun Kuti, Brymo, Falana, Erelu Abiola Dosunmu, Molara Wood and the late Fela Anikulapo Kuti.
