“Shaka iLembe” Set to Return for a Second Season on Mzansi Magic

The South African historical drama “Shaka iLembe” is set to return for its second season on June 15, 2025, at 20:00 on Mzansi Magic (Channel 161).

 

Following its debut in 2023, “Shaka iLembe” received 12 South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs) and gained widespread recognition for its portrayal of Zulu history. The upcoming season will continue the story of Shaka’s rise to power, beginning with his arrival at KwaNobamba as the new Zulu king.

Lemogang Tsipa reprises his role as Shaka, while Thembinkosi Mthembu returns as Dingiswayo, a performance that won him a SAFTA for Best Actor. Other returning cast members include Nomzamo Mbatha, Wiseman Mncube, Dawn Thandeka King, Khabonina Qubeka, and Mondli Makhoba.

 

According to Nomsa Philiso, CEO of General Entertainment at MultiChoice, the season will explore Shaka’s leadership and military strategies as he consolidates power.

 

The first season is available on Showmax, and Mzansi Wethu (Channel 163) will begin airing weekly episodes from March 16 at 21:00.
