The Silverbird Group has extended an invitation to Chidimma Adetshina to participate in Miss Universe Nigeria, just days after she withdrew from the Miss South Africa pageant amid controversy.
Guy Murray-Bruce, National Director of Miss Universe and brother of Silverbird Group founder Ben Murray-Bruce, issued the invitation via a press statement.
“As a Nigerian by heritage, we would like to formally invite you to participate in the Miss Universe 2024’s beauty pageant,” the statement read. “This is an opportunity to represent your father’s native land on the international stage and we believe you would be an outstanding contender.”
Adetshina, a South African-Nigerian model, recently faced xenophobic attacks in South Africa after her Nigerian heritage came to light. Her participation in Miss South Africa was questioned by some South Africans, including cabinet ministers.
The controversy led to Adetshina’s withdrawal from the Miss South Africa pageant, where she had been announced as a finalist.
It remains uncertain whether Adetshina will accept Silverbird’s invitation to compete in Miss Universe Nigeria. The offer presents a potential new direction for the model following her recent experiences in South Africa.
