“The Accountant 2” Faces Box Office Setback Amid Stiff Competition

Amazon MGM’s “The Accountant 2” is underperforming at the global box office amid strong competition from Marvel’s Thunderbolts and Warner Bros.’ Sinners.
The film earned $9.5 million in the U.S. over its second weekend—a 61% drop from its debut—following “Thunderbolts’” $74 million opening and “Sinners’” $33 million third weekend, according to Box Office Mojo.
In the UK, “The Accountant 2” climbed to third place but saw a steep decline, earning $622,000 compared to its $1.2 million debut, the British Film Institute. reports.
In Nigeria, the film was pushed out of the top six by “Thunderbolts*”, “Sinners”, and the Nollywood title “Ori: The Rebirth”. It opened with ₦11.8 million and is projected to reach a total of around ₦28.7 million if current trends continue.
With a reported production budget of $80 million and a global gross of $66 million so far, the film is yet to reach profitability.
Directed by Gavin O’Connor, “The Accountant 2” stars Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal, reprising their roles from the 2016 original.
