A24 studios has officially acquired the rights to ‘“The Peasant,” an upcoming revenge action thriller directed by Dev Patel.
The film, which also stars Patel, is said to have closed at $30 million at the Cannes market after an intense competition with other studios.
In a recent update, on May 11, Patel’s “The Peasant” based on its unique spectacle and story elements, was finally acquired by A24.
The film comes off Patel’s frenetic 2023 debut “Monkey Man,” which he also co-wrote, directed, and headlined.

Set in the 1300s, “The Peasant” delves into the story of a shepherd who is ignorant of his potential, embarking on a rage-fueled mission for revenge.
“The Peasant” is being described as having resemblance with “Brave Heart” and “John Wick”, as well as notes of “King Arthur.” However, it will distinctly combine medieval knights with feudal India.
The producers for this project include Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, and Chris Morrison for Thunder Road Pictures while Graham Taylor, Chris Rice, Christopher Slager, and Dan Guando are for Fifth Season.
With this acquisition deal, A24 and Patel reunite after their previous project on David Lowery’s period fantasy “The Green Knight.”
