James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios alongside Peter Safran, has officially confirmed that a new “Wonder Woman” film is in active development for the rebooted DC Universe (DCU).

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly on the future of the franchise—among other things—the filmmaker confirmed that a “Wonder Woman” movie is in the works and is “being written right now.” Another project, “Paradise Island,” an HBO series about the Amazons of Themyscira, is described as “slow moving.”

The upcoming “Wonder Woman” film will be part of the newly launched DCU slate, which kicks off next month with Gunn’s own “Superman” movie premiering on July 11, 2025. “Supergirl,” the second installment in the new cinematic universe, is scheduled for release on June 26, 2026.

Gal Gadot, the previous Wonder Woman/Diana Prince in the defunct DCEU, will not be reprising her role in the DCU, and there’s no active search for a replacement.

As for other iconic heroes, Batman has yet to be formally introduced into the DCU. However, speculation continues over whether Robert Pattinson’s iteration of the Dark Knight—currently existing in a separate cinematic continuity—might eventually be integrated into the broader franchise.
