Writer and director James Gunn announced the completion of filming for “Superman,” the inaugural project of the newly formed DC Universe, on July 30, 2024.
Gunn shared the news via Instagram, posting a photo from the early days of shooting in Svalbard.
“And that’s a wrap,” Gunn wrote. “God bless our cast and crew whose commitment, creativity, and hard work have brought this project to life. I set out to make a movie about a good man in a world that isn’t always so much.”
The production, which began on Feb. 29, spanned 153 days across locations in Svalbard, Norway, Atlanta and Ohio.
David Corenswet stars as Clark Kent/Superman, with Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.
The announcement came just two days after Gunn unveiled a new DC logo at San Diego Comic-Con, building anticipation for the film’s release on July 11, 2025.
“Superman” kicks off the “Gods and Monsters” chapter of DC’s revitalized cinematic universe. Upcoming projects include “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” (2026), “The Brave and the Bold,” “Swamp Thing,” and “The Authority.”
This reboot marks a significant shift for DC, aiming to establish a cohesive universe to rival competitor Marvel’s successful franchise model.
