Produced by Ryan Coogler’s Proximity Media, the four-part animated series spotlights Wakandan warriors retrieving vibranium across history.
Marvel Animation’s “Eyes of Wakanda” Set for August 1 Release
Marvel Animation’s “Eyes of Wakanda”, executive produced by Ryan Coogler, will premiere on Friday, August 1, following the release of its first official trailer. Originally slated for August 6, the four-episode miniseries will debut globally on Disney+.
Created by Todd Harris, “Eyes of Wakanda” is an animated anthology miniseries set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Produced by Marvel Studios Animation in collaboration with Coogler’s Proximity Media, the series marks the first installment of the MCU’s Phase Six.
The story follows the Hatut Zeraze, elite Wakandan warriors tasked with tracking down vibranium artifacts scattered across the world throughout history. Harris, who serves as both showrunner and director, weaves each 30-minute episode into a larger, continuous storyline.
The voice cast includes Winnie Harlow, Cress Williams, Patricia Belcher, Larry Herron, Adam Gold, Lynn Whitfield, Jacques Colimon, Jona Xiao, Isaac Robinson-Smith, Gary Anthony Williams, Zeke Alton, Steve Toussaint, and Anika Noni Rose.
Unlike most Marvel animated projects, “Eyes of Wakanda” is set firmly within the MCU’s “Sacred Timeline” and closely ties in with the “Black Panther” films. The series’ visual style, handled by Axis Animation, draws inspiration from the works of African-American painter Ernie Barnes and illustrator Dean Cornwell, embracing a hand-painted aesthetic.
Harris also serves as executive producer, alongside Coogler, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Zinzi Coogler, Sev Ohanian, Kalia King, and Dana Vasquez-Eberhardt.
“Eyes of Wakanda” is based on Marvel characters created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and further developed by Coogler following his work on “Black Panther.”
