Emmanuel Adejo’s “Isekonu” Among Selections for ARFIFF 2025
Isekonu has been officially selected for screening at the 14th edition of the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF), following the announcement of this year’s lineup over the weekend, set to be held in Lagos from November 2-8, 2025.
The film, which explores the deeply rooted and often troubling widowhood rites still practiced in some communities, will join a slate of powerful African stories set to be showcased at the festival.
Directed by Adejo, Isekonu follows the emotional journey of Iyore, a young widow accused of infidelity after her husband’s mysterious death. In her quest to clear her name, she submits to traditional rituals while grappling with the consequences of her past.
AFRIFF 2025 will also feature titles such as The Guardians: The Chosen One, Akoko, The Travails of Ajadi, Steal, Kill & Destroy, On Our Skin, Jeremiah, Aljana, Behind a Lie, Telephone, Eleda Ayanmo, Awori, Safari, and Raizal.
The festival remains a vibrant stage for African filmmakers and storytellers from the diaspora, presenting awards across categories such as Feature, Documentary, Short, Animation, and Students Short, alongside recognitions for Directing, Acting, and Screenplay. Its reputation as a launchpad for critically acclaimed works continues to grow, with several selected films like Freedom Way, Bukaci, The Legend of Vagabond Queen of Lagos, and Phoenix Fury, later earning nominations at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
This year marks a significant expansion with the launch of the AFRIFF Film & Content Market (AFCM), set to run from November 3–6 in Lagos simultaneously with the festival. The market aims to foster business opportunities and industry collaborations, bringing global-level interactions to the heart of Nigeria’s film scene.
Further details on the festival’s theme and programming are expected in the coming weeks.
