Wicked: For Good, starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, has broken a major 2025 box office record after opening with $68.6 million on its first day. It is now the biggest domestic opening day of the year.
The film’s strong debut continues its momentum from five months ago when its trailer earned 113 million views in 24 hours. That figure surpassed trailers for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Mufasa: The Lion King and Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
With this latest achievement, Wicked: For Good has recorded the biggest opening ever for a Broadway adaptation and the second-largest opening in Universal Pictures history. Only Jurassic World ranks higher. It also outperformed the first installment, which was released in the same pre-Thanksgiving window.

The film now leads all 2025 releases, ahead of A Minecraft Movie which opened with $57.11 million and Superman which opened with $56.5 million. Its total also reflects earnings from extensive early-access events which brought in $12.6 million before the official release on November 21.
Industry projections currently place its opening weekend at about $151.5 million.
