Disney Animation’s Zootopia 2 has become the highest-grossing Hollywood film of all time, earning $1.7 billion at the global box office. The sequel narrowly overtakes Pixar’s Inside Out 2, which previously held the record with $1.69 billion in worldwide revenue.

The box office milestone places Zootopia 2 at the top of Hollywood’s commercial rankings, reflecting sustained audience interest well beyond its opening weeks. Released on November 26, 2025, the film debuted with $560.3 million globally, marking the largest opening weekend for an animated feature.

In a statement marking the achievement, Disney Entertainment co-chairman Alan Bergman credited audiences and the film’s creative team for the record-breaking run. He praised directors Jared Bush and Byron Howard, producer Yvett Merino, and the wider Walt Disney Animation Studios team for delivering a sequel that resonated with viewers worldwide.

Beyond its Hollywood standing, Zootopia 2 now ranks as the ninth-highest-grossing film of all time. It trails global titles such as Avatar, Titanic, and Avengers: Infinity War. While China’s animated hit Ne Zha 2 remains the highest-grossing animated film overall, its earnings fall outside the Hollywood classification.

The film has continued to perform strongly across international markets. In Nigeria, it remains in cinemas in its eighth week, with reported earnings of ₦200.3 million. China has emerged as one of its largest markets, where the sequel has grossed $615.2 million and held the top box office position for several weeks.

With its current performance, Zootopia 2 is approaching the Chinese box office total previously set by Avengers: Endgame, positioning it to become the highest-grossing Hollywood release in the territory if surpassed.

The sequel brings back central characters Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, following the pair as they investigate a new threat linked to a snake destabilising the city of Metropolis, while uncovering deeper tensions beneath its orderly façade.
