Following his recent Best Supporting Actor (International) nomination for his performance in Son of the Soil, Nollywood actor Emeka Golden has opened up about what the recognition means to him both personally and professionally.
In Chee Keong Cheung’s Son of the Soil (2025), Golden plays Inspector Bello, a character likened to the fictional detective Sherlock Holmes.
Speaking with The Nollywood Reporter (TNR), Golden says the nomination means a great deal to him because it reflects years of dedication to his craft.
“Every role I’ve taken on has been an opportunity to grow and to have that journey acknowledged is deeply humbling,” he says.
Professionally, the actor notes that the nomination reinforces his commitment to telling meaningful stories that resonate with audiences.

“It’s not just an award nomination; it’s motivation to keep raising the bar and giving my best in every project,” he adds.
Despite his growing profile in Nollywood, Golden, who is also known for his performances in We Have Rats (2023) and Say Who Die (2025), admits he never fully expected the recognition.
“I wouldn’t say I expected it, but I certainly hoped that if I remained dedicated to the work, recognition would come in its own time. My focus has always been on becoming a better actor rather than chasing accolades,” he maintains.
Reflecting on his journey, Golden describes his path in the industry as one shaped by persistence, patience, and faith. According to him, every challenge, audition, and role has contributed to his growth as an actor.
While speaking on recognition in the industry, he encouraged emerging actors to focus more on improving their craft than chasing applause.

“Stay disciplined, keep learning and don’t compare your journey to anyone else’s,” he advises.
The actor also notes that recognition should never become the sole motivation for pursuing acting. Instead, he believes actors should be driven by passion, excellence, and the desire to leave an impact through every role they take on.
“Above all, remember that every role is an opportunity to leave an impact, no matter how big or small. That’s what truly defines a lasting career,” he says.
At the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival (TINFF), where the winners will be announced in September, Golden will compete alongside Taye Arimoro, his co-star in Son of the Soil. Other nominees in the category include Jared Brubaker, Ethan Kartchner, Stephen Lesser, King Fu Wong, and Omatta Udalor.
