Nigerian Grammy-winning singer Burna Boy has officially become the best-selling African artiste of all time, adding another milestone to a career that has redefined the global reach of African music.
According to music analytics platform ChartMasters, Burna Boy has amassed 14.46 million equivalent album sales worldwide, the highest figure ever recorded by an African artiste. The achievement reflects the massive commercial success of his catalogue across streaming platforms, digital sales, and other certified consumption metrics.
The latest feat further cements Burna Boy’s position as one of the most influential artists of his generation. Since breaking into the international mainstream with his 2018 hit “Ye” and the release of his acclaimed album Outside, the Port Harcourt-born star has steadily transformed from one of Nigeria’s brightest talents into one of the world’s biggest music exports.
Although Burna Boy had built a loyal following long before his global breakthrough, the period since 2018 has been particularly remarkable. He has released five albums that have collectively dominated streaming platforms and international charts while helping to push Afrobeats to new audiences worldwide.
Among those projects, African Giant has surpassed 1.2 billion Spotify streams, while Love, Damini has crossed the 1.5 billion mark, making them two of the most-streamed African albums in Spotify history.
Away from streaming, Burna Boy has also rewritten the record books as a live performer. Widely regarded as one of Africa’s most commanding stage acts, he has become the continent’s highest-selling touring artiste, selling out some of the world’s most iconic venues, including London Stadium, Madison Square Garden and Stade de France.
His touring success has also seen him set multiple African records, including the highest-grossing tour by an African artiste, the highest-grossing single concert, and the biggest concert grosses by an African act in both Canada and Oceania.
His global profile reached another level at the recently concluded 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he became the first African artiste to perform at both the tournament’s opening ceremony and final halftime show. Alongside Colombian superstar Shakira, Burna Boy performed “Dai Dai,” the official anthem of the competition, before a worldwide television audience.
