Silicon Valley African Film Festival (SVAFF), known for celebrating African cinema and its diaspora, will be returning this year for its 17th edition with an official selection of 76 films across 33 countries including Nigeria.
The festival organisers, via Instagram disclosed their return following its 2025 edition, which saw In Her Shoes by Nigerian Filmmaker Ella Chikezie as an official selection alongside a nomination for Best Short Film.
This year, the 76 selected African films made the festival selection cut across Narrative Feature and Narrative Short, Documentary Short, Documentary Feature and Animation.
David Mboussou’s Afrotōpia (Gabon), Elizabeth Tonata Hamukwaya’s Mwananga (Namibia) and Wande Thomas’ Spiraling (Nigeria) are some titles in the Narrative Feature category.
For the Narrative Short spot, Anima by Boubecrine Ibrahim El Mamy (Mauritius), Borrowed Time by Zzizinga Patrick Nsimbe (Uganda), and Ola ‘Naked’ Jegede’s Convictions make the cut amongst others. Documentary titles include Living Under Water, 40 Years of Crafting Africa, Fight for Life, and What Shall I Wear to My Funeral?
Building on the success of its previous editions, SVAFF’s return marks yet another opportunity for the film festival platform to spotlight diverse stories across the African continent while also celebrating filmmakers behind them.
The festival is scheduled to run from October 8 to October 11, 2026.
