CJ Obasi’s Nigerian epic film, ‘Mami Wata,’ and talented American-Nigerian actress Ayo Edebiri have secured nominations for the highly esteemed 2024 National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Image Awards.
The announcement, made recently, revealed that ‘Mami Wata’ will be contending in the Outstanding International Motion Picture category alongside tough competitors such as ‘Anatomy of a Fall,’ ‘Brother,’ ‘Rye Lane,’ and ‘Society of the Snow.’ Directed and written by CJ Obasi, the black and white masterpiece has gained international acclaim, making waves at numerous film festivals worldwide.
Obasi, expressing his gratitude, shared a heartfelt message via his Instagram page, acknowledging the significance of the nomination: “This one is so special. So thankful to the @naacpimageaward for this huge honor. Thank you to my family, team, friends, and supporters. This is for us.”
Ayo Edebiri, recognized for her outstanding performances, has earned a nomination in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actress for her roles in ‘The Bear’ and ‘Abbott Elementary.’ Her inclusion in this competitive category reflects the diversity and talent she brings to the screen.
Notable Nigerian entertainers have also received nods in distinct categories. The sensational music star Tems is nominated for Outstanding Female Artist, while Burna Boy contends for Outstanding Hip Hop/Rap Song.
