The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), the network’s flagship award show, is heading back to New York for its 40th anniversary celebration on Sept. 10.
The event will be held at the UBS Arena in Elmont, celebrating artists who have delivered sensational singles, visually captivating music videos, and electrifying performances over the past year.
Acknowledging this monumental milestone, New York Governor Kathy Hochul said in a press statement, “We are excited to welcome back the MTV Video Music Awards to New York State. From its origin in Radio City Music Hall in 1984 to this September’s event at the UBS Arena, the VMAs continue to captivate millions, showcasing the very best in music video artistry. As we prepare to host this 40th anniversary event, let’s embrace the spirit of creativity and innovation that defines our state’s cultural landscape.”
The VMAs will broadcast live across 150 countries and territories, thanks to MTV’s global footprint of linear and digital platforms. The show will air live at 1 a.m. W.A.T. (West African Time).
The award show’s host, nominees, and performers will be announced at a later date.
The return of the VMAs to New York City, where the inaugural ceremony was held in 1984, marks a significant milestone for the long-running event. The city’s rich cultural history and vibrant music scene make it an ideal location to celebrate the achievements of artists from around the world.
