Kunle Afolayan Wraps Filming of “Anikulapo” Season Two

Principal photography for the second season of “Anikulapo’, directed by renowned Nigerian filmmaker Kunle Afolayan, officially wrapped up on Sept. 19, 2024.

The production, which began on August 1, at KAP Film Village and Resort in Nigeria, involved 50 days of intense filming, with the final scenes shot in Cape Coast, Ghana.

Afolayan’s production team comprised approximately 1,200 cast and crew members, highlighting the scale of this Pan-African collaboration, and the shoot spanned day and night, demonstrating the team’s dedication to creating another impactful season for the recognized Netflix series.

In a statement shared by the filmmaker, Afolayan expressed gratitude to his key partners, including Netflix Naija, Fly Air Peace, the National Film Authority of Ghana, and Juliet Yaa Asantewa Asante, CEO of the Ghana National Film Authority. He credited their support as instrumental in the success of the filming process.

Afolayan also hints at the scale and ambition of the project. “Something big from Africa is coming to the world on Netflix soon,” he teased.

This season’s shoot aligns with Ghana’s “Shoot in Ghana” campaign, an initiative spearheaded by the National Film Authority to attract international productions. As part of the collaboration, Afolayan’s KAP Academy also contributed to local talent development, providing skills transfer and employment opportunities for Ghanaians throughout the production.

The new season of Anikulapo is expected to be released on Netflix, though a premiere date has not yet been announced.
