After 10 days in theaters worldwide, it’s clear that “Lilo & Stitch” is on track to become the first Hollywood film of 2025 to cross the $1 billion mark at the box office.
However, the story is different in Nigeria, where the movie’s performance has been notably weaker.
According to box office analyst Luiz Fernando on X, the Disney live-action adaptation of the 2002 animation of the same name finished its second weekend in North America with $61 million (a -57% drop) and $116 million overseas (a -27% drop). This, allied to its historic Memorial Day opening and weekday earnings, has propelled the film to $613 million as of this writing.
With the Japanese audience set to join in on the fun by June 5, a one billion gross is already guaranteed. This would make “Lilo & Stitch” the first Hollywood movie to cross this threshold this year. It won’t be the first to do so globally though; Chinese animation, “Ne Zha 2” already grossed $1 billion back in February.
In Nigeria, “Lilo & Stitch” isn’t performing as ideally. After debuting with ₦8 million, the film has exited the Top Six weekend charts, ousted by the likes of “Karate Kid” and “My Mother is A Witch.”
